Pruning Flowers

Pruning Flowers

What you need!
• Secateurs

Time needed!
20 minutes per week

• Remove any useless flower spikes of lupins, delphiniums, verbascums and foxgloves to make a second growth of flowers.
• Deadhead any fading flowers of bedding plants, annuals and herbaceous perennials. This will stimulate new blooms and also prevent the plants from self-seeding.
• Some perennials will benefit from being reduced by half in May, making them more sturdy and compact.
• You can recycle any flower spikes, blooms and stems you remove by putting them on a compost heap!
