Pruning Shrubs

Pruning Shrubs

What you need!
• Secatures
• Loppers
• Ties or garden twine

Time needed!
10-20 minutes per shrub depending on size.
• Using clean and sharp tools make clean cuts above a pair of buds, ensuring no snags are left.
• Refresh old shrubs when dormant. Thin the number of stems by half, removing old, dead wood.
• When re-potting container grown shrubs, ensure to prune the root as well as the top growth by one-third.
• Pruning down to a few buds will improve growth on any shrub!
• The ideal time to prune shrubs is in early spring and after flowering.
• The majority of evergreen shrubs do not require thinning or pruning.
