How to set Fence Posts in Concrete

How to set Fence Posts in Concrete

Step 1:
Dig holes for each post according to the concrete pack instructions (usually at least 450mm deep). The hole is usually half filled with water and the powder mix is poured on top.

Step 2:
Add a small amount of extra water to the surface if the powder is still dry. Trowel the surface smooth, sloping the concrete away from the post to allow water to run off.

Step 3:
The pre-mixed concrete sets in a few minutes, so you must work quickly, using a spirit level to check the fence post is vertical on two adjacent sides. Work along the fence line, ensuring that the posts are also aligned with each other as well as upright.

Tips & Advice:
- Leave the concrete to harden fully before attaching the arris rails.
- Don't buy panels that have a large number of knots or splits.
- It's easy to make a panel slightly smaller to fix an awkward gap - just cut through each part of the trellis with a handsaw and re-fix the edge piece along the cut edge.
