Generally when painting a room it is advisable to start at the top of the room and work down. This is so that paint is not dripped on to freshly painted areas. Therefore the following sequence should be used.
Ceiling: To make this easier a roller pole can be used, therefore removing the need to stretch or work from a stepladder.
Walls:Where possible, work away from natural light.
Trim:When painting trim the principle of working from top to bottom applies.
- start with windows: this will give a full days drying before closing in the evening.
- then paint the door, door frames and architrave followed by the skirting.
By painting the skirting last there is less risk of the brush becoming contaminated by carpet fibres or dust. However, if the room is being wallpapered, it is standard practice to paint the trim prior to hanging.
