A brand new Mica store has launched this spring in Northern Ireland, by new members Mr. & Mrs. Eric & Margaret Moore, with their son Robert. The new shop, ‘Moore’s Mica DIY’ is the first DIY store in the town, and stocks a wide range of products, including hardware, plumbing, electrical, gardening, tools and decorating products; and they also offer a key cutting service.

Mica was the ideal partner for them in this venture, as with lots of entrepreneurial spirit & home DIY skills but no prior experience of the Hardware trade they needed an impartial partner to guide them through the process. Eric commented on his reasons for coming out of retirement to open the store,

“After selling my pork-processing factory I was looking for lifes next big adventure. There is a great local community spirit in the parade, and as we already owned the empty unit, and a project like setting up a DIY store seemed like a exciting challenge”.

On his reasons for opening a Mica store,

“There are many – firstly I did my research and was aware that Mr John Dickey (Owner of T Dickey & Co Mica Hardware, a longstanding Mica member in Northern Ireland) in Irvinestown was a Mica member, and you know what they say about a man from Fermanagh ‘The bite of a Fermanagh man is hard to heal’! If Mica was good enough for John then it is good enough for me. Being a well established company, with Co-operative credentials owned by the store owners made it a great attraction. Mica also enabled me to buy products at a great price, which means that we can in turn offer good value for money to our customers. With our Mica Retail Development managers support and expertise, we were able to open a very professional business.”

Moore’s first consumer promotion, the Mica May DIY leaflet, went live this week, Robert commented,

“We’ve had a great response to our first brochure going out, and the weather is attracting customers in for summer leisure lines! We’ve already run out of our customised instore Mica leaflets so we’re requesting some more!”

Steve Ball, Mica CEO added,

”Coming only a month after the opening of another ‘from scratch’ Mica store in Trowbridge, it’s a very exciting time for everyone in the group, especially as the Moore family is completely new to Mica, and the industry as a whole. We’re very proud to be bucking the national trend, providing a low cost solution to our membership. I’d like to officially welcome them to the group, and congratulate everyone for their hard work in getting this store open, and seemingly even more unlikely, on time!”
